The Washington Commanders fell to 3-7 on the season after a fourth straight blowout loss to the Detroit Lions.

The defense continues to be the worst in the league, and the Commanders hit a historic stretch of four straight losses by 21 points or more, which hasn’t been done since 2002. Every week, the team is just rolled over, and games haven’t been competitive for weeks now. A once-excited fan base has rightfully checked out, and the stadium is already getting empty.

This is a team that was one game away from the Super Bowl last season, and now it’s playing like one poised to get a top-five pick in the draft. This year has been a wake-up call, and the Commanders are just a bad football team.

One veteran was honest about the team after the game, and somebody had to say it.

Marcus Mariota was brutally honest about the team

There are a lot of bad teams in the NFL, but none of them have been as bad as the Commanders over the last four weeks, and it’s time to accept that this team is not who we thought they were after last season. Marcus Mariota was asked about the team’s identity and finding out who they are, and he didn’t hold back at all.

“Yeah, I’m one, I don’t think we should shy away from that,” Mariota said. “I think that’s the truth. I think that’s transparency, and at the end of the day, in order to get things going in the right direction, you have to be transparent, you have to be honest. And I don’t think we are who we think we are. So, with that being said, it’s a quick turnaround. It’s a trip to Europe. It’s an opportunity for us to kind of dive in together. I believe in this brotherhood. I believe in the guys in the locker room. But, like I said, there’s got to be a sense of urgency, and I think our guys feel that.”

The Commanders aren’t who we thought they were

Yes, injuries have been a major factor this season, but it’s not a good enough excuse for what we’re seeing on the field. Last season, this was a team that was on fire and playing hard for each other, and now they look defeated.

The vibes around the team honestly haven’t been there since this offseason, when Terry McLaurin and the front office had a standoff over his contract. Also, the offseason moves, in general, were questionable, failing to excite anyone for the season.

It’s shocking to see the team be this way, even with Jayden Daniels and McLaurin out due to their injuries. The Commanders looked like they were finally built for long-term success last season, but now it appears more like a rebuild again, with coaching and player changes needed.

Head coach Dan Quinn was leading the team, but now he’s refusing to make real changes on defense. Players are getting suspended for throwing punches, and the fan base has checked out.
