The Lions’ already tough challenge against the Eagles just got a lot tougher

Can the Lions secondary survive without these guys again?

The Detroit Lions will take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football this weekend, and this is a game that is expected to be a real challenge for Detroit. The 7-2 Eagles are no joke. This would be a tough game for the Lions even if they were at full strength. Unfortunately, they won’t be there in the secondary.

Lions rule out Kerby Joseph, Terrion Arnold, and Sam LaPorta against the Eagles

It’s bad. It’s really bad. This is not at all what anyone wanted to hear going into this game. Joseph always kind of felt like a long shot because he has been dealing with this knee injury for weeks. You hope this is the last week of that for him. Lions head coach Dan Campbell did say Wednesday he was getting better. Arnold has a concussion, and he just couldn’t get out of protocol in time. These are such tough losses.

In terms of what the Lions can do lineup-wise, expect Rock Ya-Sin to start across from Amik Robertson with Arthur Maulet in the slot. Then you’ll continue to see Thomas Harper in Joseph’s spot across from Brian Branch.

The good news is that we know this isn’t the first time the Lions have had to deal with this exact scenario. This is what the Lions went into their Monday Night Football matchup with the Buccaneers with, and they were able to handle that by bringing 40 pressures to Baker Mayfield’s front door, and everyone in the secondary performed like there was no tomorrow. You need that same exact thing this time. Let’s see if they can do it again.

As for LaPorta. The writing seemed on the wall when we saw the Lions bring back tight end Anthony Firkser earlier in the week. Hopefully, this is just a one-week thing.
