The Florida Gators currently sit at 3-7 with essentially zero chance of earning a bowl game bid, due to having a losing record. The rest of the season is about playing for pride and building toward next season.

The last two games are against arguably the two biggest rivals the Gators have, and both games are at The Swamp: the Tennessee Volunteers and the Florida State Seminoles. Wins over both programs will go a long way to maximizing the future of the program, especially when it comes to recruiting against said rivals.

Getting wins in the final two games won’t be an easy task, but it became easier with the latest news on Monday.

Caleb Banks could make major return on Saturday vs. Tennessee

We saw star defensive tackle Caleb Banks improve on the injury report last week to doubtful, and it came somewhat out of nowhere. Banks was injured this offseason and re-aggravated it in his only game this season against the LSU Tigers. That wasn’t an aboration either, as he’s currently projected to play on Saturday against the Volunteers.

Adding Banks would be a massive deal for a Gators defense that could use a boost. They have done a good job dealing with the significant injuries on both the front and in the secondary. Tyreak Sapp and George Gumbs Jr. have done a great job on the edges and the emergence of sophomore Michai Boireau, but having an elite pass rusher on the interior would be a welcome addition, especially against a high-powered offense with the ability to create explosives at a high level.

Banks could also use some more film if he chooses to enter the NFL Draft this year. He was likely going top-50 in last April’s NFL Draft if he chose to enter. He wanted to return to help win a national championship. Even so, Banks returning when the Gators are 3-7 is a huge win for the program, and shows what kind of culture there is in Gainesville.
