Another defeat for the Cincinnati Bengals comes another week of new injuries as well.

Defensive end Trey Hendrickson didn’t even play in Sunday’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers and he’s still “doubtful” to play this week against the New England Patriots according to Zac Taylor. Hendrickson is far from the only player on that side of the ball dealing with injury, and one of them may not return for the rest of the season.

Here are the latest updates for Cincinnati’s recent injuries.

Cam Taylor-Britt

Taylor-Britt played 10 snaps against the Steelers before suffering a foot injury near the end of the first half. He did not return to the game, and he may not return for the rest of the season. Taylor revealed to reporters Monday the fourth-year cornerback suffered an injury to his midfoot, otherwise known as the Linsfranc ligament.

“I’d say surgery is likely right now. Lisfranc injury,” Taylor said. “So obviously that’ll take him out.”

Surgery for a Lisfranc injury can take a player out for several months, so if Taylor-Britt is soon heading to the operating table, his season for the Bengals is very much over.

And his time in Cincinnati may be up as well.

Taylor-Britt is scheduled to hit free agency this coming March, and considering he’s been benched multiple times over the last two years, the odds of him re-signing as a healthy player were slim-to-none. After so many ups and downs with the team, what could’ve been his last snap ended with him being helped off the field.

A speedy recovery to him, no matter where he ends up.

Cam Sample

Sample’s ninth snap of the game Sunday was his last as he suffered an oblique injury. His timeline to come back is unclear.

“We’re still working through,” Taylor said. “That could be a week-to-week thing for him with his oblique.”

Sample’s injury cleared the way for Myles Murphy to play close to the entire game, and Cedric Johnson to play the most snaps he’s taken in a single game in his career thus far. Johnson will be relied on even more, and Antwaun Powell-Ryland may see a jump from the practice squad after being added last week.

Shemar Stewart

Stewart was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Saturday with a knee injury. That will take him out for another three games at minimum. Taylor explained the decision to place the team’s first-round pick on I.R. a day before Sunday’s game.

“Well, you had all that time to gather all the information to decide if we thought it was gonna be a four week injury or not, which it is,” Taylor said. “We had through the bye week, and then all the way up to Saturday before, so there was really no reason to do it before then even though we knew that’s where it was trending.”

Stewart, Hendrickson, and Sample all being out means another roster move at the DE position is likely, possibly beyond Powell-Ryland getting the call up from the practice squad.
