Saints make history before playing a single snap ahead of Week 12 rivalry showdown against Falcons
A brand new look for New Orleans.
The New Orleans Saints won’t even have to take a snap in order to create some intriguing franchise history on Sunday against the rival Atlanta Falcons. Instead, simply how they are dressed will open up the history books for the team, and fans seem to be excited about the premise for New Orleans.
Saints will wear all-black uniform for first time in team history
According to the team’s social media, the Saints are making a unique decision regarding their look for their game this weekend against the Falcons. They are wearing an all-black look from head to toe. They’ll wear their black alternate helmet, a black jersey, and black pants. We haven’t seen them dawn the black pants quite as often as we used to, so that’s worth mentioning as well.
For a team known for their black and gold color scheme, this may surprise some folks. The key aspect here is, of course, the alternate black helmet that the Saints introduced last season. This year, they’ve shied away from an odd look where that helmet crowned a white look beneath it. I think it fits much better in a “blackout” sort of them like this one against the Falcons.
This sort of opportunity hasn’t been on the table too often. Accordingly, the Saints are taking advantage of this chance to change up the norm for their uniform.
“As mentioned, teams are now permitted to mix-and-match uniform pieces, as the league revised its rules this offseason after previously requiring teams to wear their standard helmets with their home or road jerseys and their alternate helmets with their alternate jerseys.” — Andrew Lind
I am interested to see how often this combination occurs and how it will look in-game. Only time will tell. Regardless, Saints fans are getting a brand new sight as they look for a win over a key rival.
