This week’s college football slate is one of the weakest of the season. Look no further than the Alabama Crimson Tide, who are taking on the Eastern Illinois Panthers in what is more of a get-right game than an actual contest.

But that’s the state of almost every SEC team this week, and for most of the country ahead of Thanksgiving weekend and rivalry week.

But there are two games that Alabama fans should be watching closely. Because if either one of the favorites were to fall, Alabama will be back in the mix for a home playoff game and maybe even a first-round bye.

Oregon vs. USC

Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans have a huge game for the future of the program on tap. If Riley can beat the Oregon Ducks in Eugene, they suddenly become a talking point in terms of the CFP discussion.

But should Oregon lose again at home, without having a real signature win on its resume, the Ducks would likely be on the outside looking in, and the committee certainly wouldn’t be able to argue the Ducks over the Crimson Tide.

Oklahoma vs. Missouri

Alabama needs to hope that the Oklahoma Sooners used all its ammo last week against the Tide and get caught sleeping at the wheel against the Tigers. Even with the head-to-head advantage, three losses would send Oklahoma packing, and it wouldn’t be for the playoff.

The Tigers have been a tough out all season, and as Alabama fans know, Missouri possesses one of the better rushing attacks in the country, and it will be a battle of good on good, given how good Oklahoma’s defense is against the run.

In all, it’s not the weekend that Alabama should be expecting any upsets, (that comes next week) but it doesn’t mean the Crimson Tide and the fans of the program can’t be rooting for them.
