Ryan Day makes major admission regarding Ohio State’s focus now that it is Michigan week in Columbus
It’s about time for what the Buckeyes have been waiting a year for.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have been adamant about taking things one week at a time this season, and it has them sitting at 11-0. Ohio State wrapped up its home slate with a 42-9 win over Rutgers, and now all attention turns to where the Buckeyes can accomplish one of their major goals.
Ohio State has not beaten Michigan in its last four tries, and that’s been the one real cloud over Ryan Day’s tenure in Columbus. Day is now 81-10 after Saturday’s win over Rutgers, but four of those losses have come against the Wolverines. The Buckeyes were big favorites last season and still fell 13-10.
Ryan Day reveals the Buckeyes’ focus now that the Rutgers game is behind them
“We know this is the last game of the year and what it means to everybody here,” Day said on Saturday. “It doesn’t take long in the fourth quarter once the game was in hand for everybody to start figuring out this thing is coming fast. There was just a good look in everybody’s eye in the locker room, man. We’re excited about this one.
“[We] just need to focus on what really matters, and that’s everybody doing their job and going on the road in what’s gonna be a great environment and going to get it done. That will be the focus.”
There isn’t a player on Ohio State’s roster who owns a win over Michigan, which marks a stark contrast from Urban Meyer’s tenure in Columbus, when he dominated the rivalry. Michigan enters at 8-2, with its only losses coming to the Oklahoma Sooners and USC Trojans. The Wolverines are their typical selves with a hard-nosed running game and a tough defense.
Ohio State is a two-score favorite on the road next Saturday, but that means nothing. You can throw out the spread when it comes to The Game, and there’s little doubt it will be a rock fight in Ann Arbor like usual. All attention in Columbus this week will center on the availability of Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate, who both sat out against Rutgers.
