The NFL is fining wide receiver George Pickens for unsportsmanlike conduct due to his touchdown celebration during the Dallas Cowboys’ win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 11. And at this point, it looks like being fined is becoming Pickens’ most expensive hobby.

This is the second time in the 2025 season the NFL fines Pickens for a celebration, but he’s getting punished for a higher sum. This time, Pickens is set to pay up $26,085 instead of the basic $14,491, which he was fined after Week 2 due to a “violent gesture” celebration (finger guns). It was a different amount because this was a “use of prop” celebration.

But that’s not it. This is Pickens’ fifth fine of the season, raising his total fines for the year to $84,049, per Spotrac. Per several job searching websites, the average salary in Dallas sits slightly above $60,000. In his last two years at Pittsburgh, Pickens was fined $61,994.5 per year. A high number, sure, but nothing to do with this season. I mean, there are seven more weeks left to go before this season ends. He’s trending toward spending six digits at this rate.

Now granted, Pickens’ money will go to a good cause. The fines collected by the league “are donated to the Professional Athletes Foundation to support Legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game.”

Even still, being fined this much is totally unnecessary. And while Pickens has been one of the most fun players to wear the Star in a long time, one has to wonder if he wants to tone it down to avoid money being taken out of his pockets.

George Pickens knew a fine was coming all along

Following a touchdown catch amid his 144-yard performance versus the Raiders, Pickens jumped on the goalpost, which prompted a unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. The NFL doesn’t allow players to use any kind of prop to celebrate other than the football.

Immediately after the game, Pickens admitted he was unsure why he did it.

“Let’s talk about it, bro,” Pickens told reporters. “I don’t know what made me jump on the goal post, but I’m not going to do that again.”

We’ve all been there: Making a mistake and immediately wondering why we did it. One thing is for sure: These fines will mean even less to Pickens in no time. The way he’s playing right now, he’s about to become one of the highest-paid receivers in the game.

Cowboys LB DeMarvion Overshown was also fined $8,166 for a late hit made in the second quarter.
