The prophecy has already been written about Notre Dame superstar Jeremiyah Love and his chances to win the Heisman Trophy

Jeremiyah Love’s Heisman chances have already been etched in stone.

Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love (4) makes a heart sign after scoring a touchdown in the first half of a NCAA football game against Syracuse at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, in South Bend.

This feels like the most wide-open Heisman Trophy race we have seen in some time in college football. There are some good quarterbacks nationally, including the likes of Fernando Mendoza (Indiana), Julian Sayin (Ohio State), Ty Simpson (Alabama), and Dante Moore (Oregon), but none of them have created a no-brainer case to take home the award. Whoever puts together the strongest stretch over the last couple of games could be the winner when all is said and done.

Heading into the game against the Syracuse Orange, Notre Dame superstar running back Jeremiyah Love felt like a Heisman candidate who was gaining some steam, but probably wouldn’t win the award even if he got that invite to New York City. Over the last few games, however, Love is certainly making things very interesting. During the 70-7 win over Syracuse, the defense and special teams made the biggest impact early, but Love proceeded to make big play after big play. On just nine carries, Love rushed for 171 yards and three touchdowns, an absurd average of 21.4 yards per carry.

Aside from his 94-yard, two-touchdown performance in the team’s blowout victory against Navy (he was still great!), the 6-0, 214-pound runner has been putting together an insane five-game stretch at the right time. That includes a game against the USC Trojans, where Love rushed for 228 yards and another 147 yards last week against a ranked Pittsburgh team. The junior ball carrier has now rushed for 1,306 yards and scored 20 total touchdowns. As a part of that production, Love has put out some incredible Heisman moments and highlights.

While some may consider Love a dark horse to win the award, my mind has been changed with the recent stretch. Jeremiyah Love is the best player in college football. He deserves to take home the Heisman Trophy, no matter how unusual it is for a non-quarterback to do so.

A trend in Jeremiyah Love’s favor

While watching the game between the Oregon Ducks and the USC Trojans, the broadcast mentioned a trend that could be working in Love’s favor. Since 1985, every college football season ending in 5 has featured the last four Heisman Trophy-winning running backs. That list includes Bo Jackson (Auburn) in 1985, Eddie George (Ohio State) in 1995, Reggie Bush (USC) in 2025, and Derrick Henry (Alabama) in 2015. That means that in order for that trend to continue, Love will need to take home the award this season. It is only right.

While it is partly joking, that coincidental stretch is a crazy one. Whether Love ends up winning the award or not, you can make a strong argument that he deserves it as much as anyone. He comes from a great program, is extremely productive, and has the aura about him to appeal heavily to Heisman voters. This is a conversation that will rage on for the next several weeks, but for me, the conversation is already over. If Love puts together another stellar performance next week against a struggling Stanford team, get him to New York City and give him the award he rightfully deserves.
