Tennessee managed to frustrate a Florida legend after Vols’ 31-11 win over the Gators

The Tennessee Vols’ 31-11 win over the Florida Gators on Saturday night in the Swamp was even sweeter for UT fans, thanks to Urban Meyer being in attendance for the beatdown.
Meyer, who is set to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame next month, was honored by Florida during the game.
Meyer’s presence likely made the loss even more frustrating for former Gators linebacker Brandon Spikes, an SEC legend who played under Meyer at Florida from 2006 to 2009.

Spikes went 4-0 against Tennessee. He was an integral part of Meyer’s best teams at Florida.
The current version of Florida football, however, looks nothing like Meyer’s Gators.
That’s probably why Spikes woke up on Sunday morning in disbelief at what he witnessed in Gainesville on Saturday night.
“What we all witnessed (in person, no less) is a low in the program,” tweeted Spikes. “I am just as frustrated as the rest of Gator nation. I know it’s been a long and rough road, 15 years. We need a return to the Gator standard of excellence we saw under the Spurrier and Meyer leadership. I agree we need to completely rebuild and get the Gator name back on the national stage.”

You can certainly sense the frustration in Spikes’ words.
Florida isn’t used to losing to Tennessee — the reaction from Spikes says it all. But they’ve now lost to the Vols in three of the last four seasons.
I don’t know if this is the start of a dominant run for the Vols in this rivalry, but there’s no doubt that Tennessee is the better program right now.
