T.J. Watt’s defeated response after losing to the Bears proves he couldn’t care less about making history on Sunday
T.J. Watt was not happy with what went down on Sunday.
T.J. Watt and J.J. Watt will likely get together for Thanksgiving dinner at some point this week, and when they do, there will be a different brother who sits 26th all-time in career sacks at 115 overall.
That would be T.J. Watt, who passed his brother on the list in style, recording a strip sack fumble that resulted in seven points for the Steelers.
But when asked about what that meant to him, Watt could only focus on the end result of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ loss to the Chicago Bears.
T.J. Watt frustrated after losing to Bears
“I’ll think about it later,” said Watt via the Steelers YouTube channel when asked about the historic achievement. “The margin for error is slim every week. It’s the National Football League. We have a lot of things that need to be fixed, fixed quickly. [We need to be playing] our best football at this stretch of the season, and we need to get better and get better quickly.”
T.J. Watt is never a happy camper after a loss, but his tone and tenor on Sunday were those of pure defeat. As he would say, it’s just the same old stuff with the Steelers being unable to get stops, which is almost ironic.
Because Watt and his teammates on that side of the ball did do their job late in the game. In fact, they gave Mason Rudolph and the Steelers two chances to go down and win the game — if not, at the very least to tie the game.
Those drives obviously ended in nothing after Mason Rudolph missed a wide-open Roman Wilson down the sideline, and the Steelers were forced to punt. The defense then secured a three-and-out that would go to waste after a botched attempt at getting into field goal range.
“The hourglass is going, and the sand’s falling through. There’s not a lot of time for mistakes. These are very critical games between good teams. One team has to lose, one team has to win,” added Cam Heyward on the loss via Brendan Howe on X-Twitter.
And I doubt that the Steelers players knew they lost their lead in the AFC North by the time pressers came about, since Baltimore also played in the early window, but after the Ravens’ win over the Jets, Pittsburgh no longer leads the AFC North.
With two games still on deck against the Baltimore Ravens, the Steelers can change that and the outlook of their season, but it will be a grim plane ride back to Pittsburgh in the meantime.
