Michigan HC Sherrone Moore doesn’t hold back how he really feels about the Ohio State Buckeyes days away from hosting them
Sherrone Moore is looking to pull off a major upset against Ryan Day and the Buckeyes once again.
It’s the biggest week of the regular season for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ohio State will get its chance to end the losing streak against the Michigan Wolverines, which now sits at four straight games. The Buckeyes will carry an 11-0 record into their road matchup with the Wolverines.
Ohio State is coming off a 42-9 win over Rutgers in its regular-season home finale, while Michigan just beat Maryland 45-20. Michigan’s two losses this season have come against Oklahoma and USC, and the Buckeyes enter as two-score favorites on the road.
Sherrone Moore calls it like he sees it with the Ohio State offense
“It’s potent, man. It’s one of the best in the country—obviously, the best team in the country,” Moore said on Monday. “The receivers are elite. Four, Jeremiah (Smith), is elite. Carnell Tate is elite. They’ve got Brandon Inniss, he’s elite. The tight end, Max Klare, is a really good player as well. The quarterback is elite. They’ve got elite players everywhere on the field from a skill-position standpoint. Running back is really good, O-line is good. It’s a challenge I know our defense is ready to take on.”
Moore admitting that Ohio State is the best team in the country right now shows his commitment to avoiding bulletin-board material. He is 2–0 all-time against the Buckeyes, earning his first win as a full-time head coach in 2024. Moore was also the acting head coach in 2023 when Jim Harbaugh was suspended, and Michigan won that game as well. Michigan has a strong defense that will attempt to match whatever the Buckeyes throw at them.
All attention in Columbus this week will be on whether star wideouts Smith and Tate can play against Michigan. Both receivers missed the Rutgers game, and Tate has been out for three straight contests. Ohio State’s passing attack looked noticeably different without the two in the lineup. The pair has combined for more than 1,600 receiving yards this season, and that’s a lot of production to replace on the fly.
Ohio State will need its high-powered offense—averaging 38 points per game—to be on full display against Michigan. Ryan Day and the Buckeyes may be on top of the college football world over the last year, but the cloud of losing to Michigan still hangs over the program.
