Dan Campbell on if the Lions could get Frank Ragnow back in 2026 and their immediate future at center
Dan Campbell talks about what the Lions next move at center could be
Well, Thanksgiving time kinda sucks right now. Maybe Christmas will be better. After the extremely exciting news that the Detroit Lions were getting back Frank Ragnow dropped before Thanksgiving, it felt like the only place things could go from here was up. Then the Lions lost on Thanksgiving, and now Ragnow is no longer coming out of retirement. We got to talk with Lions head coach Dan Campbell on Zoom Saturday morning about Ragnow, and he answered some of the big questions Lions fans have at center.
Can Ragnow play in 2026?
Since Frank Ragnow is technically still under contract with the Lions in 2026, this was the first question that was asked. Can he play next year? Unfortunately, we didn’t get much of a concrete answer to this one. Campbell said nothing has been discussed on that front at this time. So it’s not a no or a yes. It’s an “I don’t know.” We’ll see where things go.
How does someone not know they have a grade 3 hamstring strain?
As it would turn out, Ragnow did know that something was going on with his hamstring.
“Yeah, we knew there was something in there. He (Ragnow) had disclosed that, you know, that he had a bit of something in there.” Campbell said. “We just didn’t know the severity of it until we had the final physical and all the tests that were run that we do with anybody we bring in. So yeah, we had an idea. We just didn’t know it was going to be to that extent.”
You have to remember that Frank Ragnow is not like us, normal people. If I had a grade 3 hamstring strain, I’d probably just die from it. Ragnow is a guy who had surgery on a torn meniscus and then played an NFL game a few days later. Like, he’s just not human.
What is the status with Graham Glasgow’s injury?
“I haven’t heard any news lately. On Graham, I know he feels better. I do know that, but that’s about as far as it’s gone.”
On how Campbell felt Trystan Colon played at center against the Packers
“I thought he did some good things. I mean, there was some things that weren’t as well. There was a little up and down. But, man, I thought he brought a lot of energy. I thought, you know, most of his IDs were on point. And I thought he did some good things, and I think the more he plays, the better he would get.”
On whether Kinglsey Eguahun could get a shot at center
“Well, we haven’t. We haven’t discussed that at length or anything. We like Kingsley, you know, and obviously we brought him to the game the other day, but we’re looking at everything. We talk about the roster a lot. You know, nothing’s off the table for anything, for, you know, for anybody, any position. But there again, I didn’t think. I didn’t think Colon did a bad job the other night. You know, he went in there, and he competed. And can he be better? Yeah, and he will be better.”
