When news broke yesterday that the Pittsburgh Steelers would be placing starting LT Broderick Jones on the injured reserve, the question was, for how long? Dealing with a neck stinger can be challenging, as it sometimes lasts only a few days, while other times it can last weeks or even months. And in the case of one recent Steelers’ draft pick, they can be career-ending.

Well, we hope and pray it’s not to that degree with Broderick Jones, but it appears he won’t be back anytime soon.

Broderick Jones out for the season with neck injury

“Broderick Jones has a neck injury that is more serious than originally thought and will miss the remainder of the 2025 season, per sources,” wrote Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on X-Twitter.

Andrus Peat, who the Steelers signed back in August, will be the starter for the time being as Calvin Anderson continues his role as the swing tackle. The injury now makes things tricky for the Steelers. Jones, a 2023 first-rounder, is in year three with Pittsburgh.

That means that Pittsburgh will have a decision to make on whether or not they accept or decline his 5th year option come this spring. Right now, if they decided to pick up the option, it would cost the team $19.9 million.

I’m not sure, given his level of play over the years and now this injury, that the 5th-year option is in the cards for Jones. I would expect Pittsburgh to decline it and let Jones play out the 4th and final year of his rookie deal before hitting free agency in 2027.

For the time being, however, the Steelers’ starting quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, will now have a backup LT guarding his blindside even though he has multiple broken bones in his left wrist.

“Aaron Rodgers is off the injury report and starting Sunday against the Bills, but there’s an added ironman element to his ability to take the field.

Rodgers actually has at least three fractures in his left wrist, but he’s been adamant about playing after missing last week’s narrow 31-28 loss to the Bears, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday morning. Rapoport added Rodgers’ teammates have been impressed with the quarterback’s resolve.” Bobby Kownack, NFL.com

We’ll see what that resolve looks like against a Bills team searching for a big win.
