Cam Heyward is known for being everything you want in a team captain. He’s an All-Pro player on the field, an All-Pro leader in the locker room, and an All-Pro human off the field. He’s won the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, and he’s known for being one of the cooler heads on the Steelers’ defense.

So it became clear that Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen struck a nerve on Sunday. He did something to provoke such a response from Heyward, and the captain revealed what that was after the game.

Cam Heyward says Josh Allen kneed him in the stomach

“Being kneed in my stomach, and then it was jawing back and forth, and that ticked me off the entire game because, because as a quarterback they’re protected, but I’m not… [It] just pisses me off,” said Heyward when asked what Allen did to provoke him via Brendan Howe on X-Twitter.

That makes sense when seeing how visceral a reaction that Heyward had with Allen. During the game it was like man, just focus on the game, but for whatever reason, this year has seen a ton of extracurricular activities, the biggest headline of which was the spitgate debacle that surrounded Steelers DB Jalen Ramsey.

But if you recall, the season kicked off with Jalen Carter spitting on Dak Prescott. Then we had the Chase-Ramsey debacle, and just last week on Monday Night Football, 49ers WR Jauan Jennings was punched below the belt by Carolina Panthers DB Tre’von Moehrig.

So I don’t know what has gotten into the water this year, and it’s certainly not a good look for reigning league MVP Josh Allen, but the product on the field was even worse on Sunday, and the Steelers know it.

“You know, not a lot needs to be said. Man, that’s awful performance by us, but it’s us,” said Mike Tomlin after the game via the Steelers YouTube channel. “Tonight, obviously, we didn’t possess the ball or maintain ball security on offense. We’re highly penalized. We allowed those guys to run the ball, didn’t play 60 minutes of action, didn’t play complementary football, so we got to absorb that result. You know, we certainly not going to feel sorry for ourselves. That’s this business we’re in.”

I don’t know how much longer Tomlin and the Steelers will be in business if games like Sunday continue down the last month of the season.
