All-Pro WR Terry McLaurin responded to the criticism in his trademark way, and it was perfect timing for Commanders’ offense
Terry McLaurin wasted no time reminding people who he is.
The Washington Commanders lost a heartbreaker at home in overtime against the Denver Broncos after a failed 2-point conversion, but still saw some positives.
This was easily the team’s best showing all season, and it really makes you wonder how good the team could’ve been without all the injuries. Quarterback Jayden Daniels hasn’t played with his top wide receiver, Terry McLaurin, since Week 2, and he could be back next week.
In the meantime, we saw McLaurin make his return, and he reminded everyone exactly why he’s the Commanders’ biggest playmaker, and why these last five games are still important.
Terry McLaurin is back to himself in tough loss
Not having McLaurin healthy this season has been a major factor for the Commanders being 3-9, and we were reminded of that on Sunday night. McLaurin has missed eight total games with his quad injury and got back on the field like nothing ever happened. He makes the crunch time plays like routine as always, and scored not just once, but twice in overtime to give the team a chance to win.
His first play was a 30-yard deep pass for a touchdown that was called back on a holding call on rookie right tackle Josh Conerly Jr. Washington continued down the field and went right back to ole reliable himself, for the touchdown to try to win the game.
McLaurin’s presence on the field has been missed, and having that threat that can make a big play at any time is something the Commanders haven’t had with him out. He didn’t have an easy matchup in his first game back against top corner Patrick Surtain II, but he made the play that was needed the most.
Terry McLaurin’s return was right on time
McLaurin needed a real test in his return, and Surtain II is one of the best corners in the entire league, so McLaurin didn’t have time to knock off any rust. It wasn’t easy, as McLaurin caught only three of his eight targets on Surtain II, but he did one thing to him that nobody else has for a long time: scored a touchdown.
Matchups like this are what make games as exciting as this one was, and McLaurin showed what the Commanders’ offense has been missing all season. Hopefully, Daniels will be back next week against the Minnesota Vikings, and the two can get back to being a lethal duo.
Coming back to face off against a top corner in the league to remind everyone what he can do, while Daniels works his way back, was perfect timing. Even in a loss, McLaurin’s return brought energy and a different feel around the team that can carry until the end of the season, which they needed with the playoffs out of reach. Having momentum at the end of the season shows that this team can be back to its winning ways with an impactful offseason ahead.
