Alabama’s latest College Football Playoff ranking should reflect what became crystal clear following gutsy win from Crimson Tide
It’s time for the committee to do what’s right with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The Alabama Crimson Tide took a tumble in the CFP rankings following the team’s loss to the Oklahoma Sooners. From four to 10, the committee placed the Tide on the fringe and has been tongue-in-cheek about what Alabama’s path back to a home playoff game looks like.
But following a rivalry weekend that saw Alabama lay everything on the line and win while teams in front of the Tide either faltered or played bad teams, the committee should take note and bump the Tide up on Tuesday. Josh Taylor of A to Z Sports and I explain why.
Alabama should jump Notre Dame in College Football Playoff on Tuesday
In my eyes, it’s simple. Alabama went into Jordan-Hare Stadium and beat an Auburn Tigers squad that was playing much better in the post-Hugh Freeze era. Sure, it went down to the wire, but it’s the Iron Bowl. It’s a match-up that’s never easy, no matter where the teams are in terms of direction. Yet, Kalen DeBoer and Ty Simpson laid it all on the line and got on the bus back to Tuscaloosa as victors.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame played…Stanford. A program in the middle of a total overhaul. Sure, they beat the Ivy League of the West 49-20, but Stanford finished the year with four wins in arguably the worst Power-4 conference.
“Alabama’s resume speaks for itself when you see the gauntlet it had to go through. After losing Week 1 to Florida State, it had zero room for error, and continued to stack quality wins against No. 4 Georgia on the road, No. 14 Vanderbilt, Missouri on the road, Tennessee, and lost a close game against No. 8 Oklahoma.
“The College Football Playoff selection committee isn’t giving Alabama enough credit for its strength of schedule. Alabama has a better resume and more quality wins than Ole Miss and Notre Dame, and will be in a Conference Championship, which neither of those teams can say. The committee might drop Ole Miss like they said they would after Lane Kiffin’s departure as well, and Alabama should honestly be a top-eight team heading into the SEC Championship, which is crucial if they end up losing to Georgia with the hopes of still making the College Football Playoff.” – Taylor
