The Green Bay Packers have found a piece to create depth after losing Devonte Wyatt for the season. On Wednesday, the team signed defensive tackle Jordon Riley off the New York Giants’ practice squad. Because of that move, Riley is now a member of the Packers’ 53-man roster, and the team has to keep him for at least three weeks.

Jordon Riley adds beef to the interior of the defensive line

Jordon Riley was a seventh-round pick by the Giants back in 2023. After making the active roster in New York for two full seasons, he was waived back in August but returned to the Giants’ practice squad right thereafter. Now, it’s his first experience on another NFL team.

A 6-5, 315-pound defensive tackle, Riley played college football at four different schools: North Carolina, Garden City Community College, Nebraska, and Oregon.

In his first two seasons with the Giants, Riley had 383 defensive snaps — mostly playing on the A-gap as a true nose tackle. But he also offers some versatility to play defensive tackle as a 3-tech. He has generated two pressures and 12 stops in the league.

Riley is mostly expected to be a depth piece for now. The interior defensive line group has Karl Brooks, Colby Wooden, Warren Brinson, and Nazir Stackhouse, while James Ester and Dante Barnett are on the practice squad.

On Tuesday, the Packers tried out Ross Blacklock and Isaiah Raikes, but neither has been signed.

A former first-round pick, Wyatt, suffered a lower-leg fracture in the fourth quarter of the Detroit Lions game on Thursday. While he’s under contract with the Packers for 2026, he’s slated to miss the rest of the 2025 season, his fourth year in the NFL.

Positive injury updates

The Packers received a series of positive developments ahead of the Chicago Bears game on Sunday. Linebacker Quay Walker, wide receiver Matthew Golden, cornerback Nate Hobbs, and defensive tackle Karl Brooks, who missed the Lions game, were all at practice on Wednesday.

Running back MarShawn Lloyd and edge defenders Brenton Cox Jr. and Collin Oliver also had their 21-day practice windows opened this week, and Jayden Reed is closer to his return as he’s been practicing for almost two full weeks.

The only players on the active 53-man roster who did not practice were rookie wide receiver Savion Williams (foot) and edge defender Lukas Van Ness (foot), in addition to Wyatt, who will soon be placed on injured reserve.
