The Detroit Lions will play an incredibly important game on Thursday night when they host the Dallas Cowboys. Point blank period, this is a must-win game for the Lions. A win pushes their playoff chances to 45%. A loss drops them to 12% and, to some degree, ends their season. It’s that serious. What’s crazy is that they may have to do it with a new offensive line combination.

At this point, Graham Glasgow and Kayode Awosika are both questionable, but it feels like they’re only getting one of these guys out there, and that’s Glasgow. He’s at least practiced all week, even if they were limited. Awosika missed practice on Monday, had a limited practice on Tuesday, and then missed Wednesday. It seems like he might be out for this one. With that in mind, the Lions will be forced to use a new combination. Here are three ways they might go:

Miles Frazier gets his first start, and Glasgow goes back to center

We’ll start it off with the most likely outcome. Fraizer has been back for a few weeks, and the options at left guard are dwindling. It’s time to put the kid out there and see what he can do in an NFL game. Frazier was no slouch at LSU. This is a three-year starter in the SEC and a guy who started at every position he played at. Personally, he was my favorite offensive lineman coming out of the draft. I’m pretty high on him.

With Glasgow coming back from injury, he takes over for Trystan Colon at center, and this looks like a pretty good lineup suddenly. You’d like to have Frank Ragnow more, but sadly, that is not happening.

Glasgow takes over at center, and Colon plays left guard

Another one to consider is that the Lions want to keep Colon in the lineup. He’s been on the 53-man roster all year, and they may want to see if they can keep growing with him. Colon has mostly been a right guard in the NFL, but the Cardinals toyed with him at left guard quite a bit as well.

So, he has experience. That does give him a little bit of a leg up on Frazier, but Frazier should still be the way to go.

Colon stays at center, and Glasgow plays guard

Maybe the Lions just go crazy and throw something at the wall to see if it sticks. Colon played center on Thanksgiving, and it wasn’t too bad. Maybe the Lions felt good enough about it that they don’t want to change it. That would put Glasgow at the left guard spot, where he started last season. This is the least likely scenario, but it’s one my brain couldn’t fully cancel out.

We’ll see what the Lions do on Thursday night soon, when we get to the stadium and watch their pre-game warmups. There’s a very good chance it’s something new.
