Malik Cunningham has to throw a pass against his former team right?

The Detroit Lions will be playing against the Dallas Cowboys in a few hours, and they’ve made a handful of roster moves ahead of the game. Here’s what they did:

Elevated WR/QB Malik Cunningham from the practice squad

Color me all the way intrigued on this one. Cunningham is not just a wide receiver; he’s also a former NFL quarterback who started in college at Louisville. The Lions may be looking to have some extra help on the receiver front in case Amon-Ra St. Brown doesn’t play, but you have to wonder out loud if the Lions are planning something with Cunningham on Thursday night. Perhaps he could throw a pass in this game. At this point, this is a must-win game, and it makes sense to throw things at the wall and see if they stick.

Placed TE Brock Wright on IR

Earlier this week, we talked about how newly signed tight end Hayden Rucci could immediately see a lot of playing time in Detroit. With Wright now out for presumably the rest of the regular season, that might now come true. Hopefully, when Wright comes back, he doesn’t attempt to do a dive ever again.

Signed CB Nick Whiteside to the 53-man roster

The Lions released Whiteside just a couple of weeks ago to make room for D.J. Reed. Now with Terrion Arnold out for the rest of the season, Whiteside is back. He had a huge game against the Buccaneers earlier in the season, and here’s hoping that he can have another big one on Thursday against the Cowboys. He has a chance to earn a permanent spot on this roster if he does.
