ESPN says late addition to the Tennessee Vols’ 2026 recruiting class ‘has immediate impact ability’
The Tennessee Vols made some big additions to their 2026 recruiting class on Thursday.
The Tennessee Vols made a splash on Wednesday by landing 2026 four-star edge rusher Jordan Carter.
Carter, 6-foot-3/245 lbs from Douglasville, GA, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 22 player in the state of Georgia and the No. 23 edge rusher in the nation.
The four-star recruit was previously committed to the Texas A&M Aggies.
ESPN says Jordan Carter “has immediate impact ability”
ESPN loved the Vols’ addition of Carter, suggesting that the edge rusher “has immediate impact ability”.
“Carter checks most of the physical boxes for an elite Edge defender,” wrote ESPN’s Billy Tucker. “He’s big (6-3, 235), powerful and plays with an imposing temperament. He comes off the ball with a quick first step and explosive drive from his lower body to shock blockers and create chaos in the backfield. Carter is really difficult to beat on the edge with his length and strength at the point of attack. While he can overpower as a bull rusher, he has a variety of pass rush moves including a quick inside counter. Given his big frame, Carter could easily bulk up into a true interior lineman and control and disrupt gaps in the right college scheme. The No. 8-rated defensive end has great upside at the next level.”
“Carter has the physical traits to change the course,” added Tucker. “He possesses the strength to control gaps and high upside as an edge rusher with his speed to power combination and quickness to counter inside. The Vols will lose experience upfront next year, and Carter has immediate impact ability.”
Tennessee is losing edge rusher Joshua Josephs to the 2026 NFL Draft, so there should be an opportunity for Carter to see the field early for the Vols next fall.
