5 winners and 4 losers from the Lions win over the Cowboys, one of Detroit’s biggest superstars had a really bad night
Sorry, Cade Cunningham. Hopefully that’s the only loss you take in the next few days
The Detroit Lions needed to win this game to stay in the playoff hunt, and that’s exactly what they did. A 44-30 win over the Cowboys now gives the Lions a 54% chance to make the playoffs.
We’ve got five winners and four losers in this one.
Winnners
Jahmyr Gibbs
At some point, we might just have to put Jahmyr Gibbs in his own section called “super winners” because this dude is on another level right now. He had 121 yards and his third touchdown hat trick of the season. The Red Wings have to be looking at this dude, hoping he can skate at this point.
The only complaint is that he didn’t have his best day running the ball, with just 43 yards on 3.6 yards per carry. But everything else makes up for it.
Al-Quadin Muhammad
Going into the game, we talked about how the Cowboys’ offensive line was susceptible and how they would put a lot of their eggs in the basket of stopping Aidan Hutchinson. That means this was the game to win the one-on-ones if you’re Al-Quadin Muhammad or Marcus Davenport.
Muhammad stepped up and put up four pressures and three sacks. Now, he needs to step up yet again in a big game against the Rams next week.
Amon-Ra St. Brown
He wasn’t even supposed to play in this game after not practicing all week and missing the majority of the game against the Packers. Amon-Ra St. Brown tested the ankle before the game, gave a thumbs up, and then put up six catches for 92 yards. That’s a team player right there.
Tom Kennedy
Tom Kennedy might have won himself a bigger job going forward. He had returns of 42, 40, and 38 in this game and set the Lions offense up nicely each time. He and Jacob Saylors are likely to be the duo back there from now on. Kennedy might not see the practice squad again for a while.
Jack Campbell
With every passing week, Jack Campbell keeps climbing the rankings of the top linebackers in the NFL. He’s top five this season, and there’s no doubt about it. He’s playing at a Pro Bowl and an All-Pro level. In this game, he had 12 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble. Not bad at all.
Losers
Marcus Davenport
As I noted in Muhammad’s section, this was the chance for Davenport to take advantage of the one-on-one’s and he just didn’t do it. After the game, people wondered whether he even played. Myself included. He had one pressure, no sacks, and no tackles. It makes you feel like you know all you need to know at this point.
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa didn’t do anything wrong, but he also could have had a hat trick in this game. He had the one touchdown that counted, but then Goff just missed him in the end zone on another, and his toes were just out of bounds on the other. The good news is that there’s a trust growing there with Goff.
D.J. Reed
D.J. Reed had the worst game of his career; he’d probably tell you that, too. It was very uncharacteristic of him to allow nine catches for 130 yards. The good news is that he made up for all of it at the end by sealing the win with an interception.
Cade Cunningham
The guy is from Dallas, I get it. But it had to make you a little salty that one of the city’s biggest superstars wasn’t in the building for your team. It happens more than you know. Anyways, it didn’t work out for Cunningham in this one. Hopefully, things work out better against the Blazers Friday night.
