The Chicago Bears are gearing up for a massive NFC North battle on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers on the road and it’s been a long time since an individual game in the NFL’s greatest rivalry ever felt as big as this one.

The Bears, at 9-3, are riding a five-game win streak into Lambeau, the site of the team’s last head-to-head win against the Packers. Meanwhile, the Packers, at 8-3-1, are right on the Bears’ heels in the NFC North race and looking to shakeup the NFC standings.

Going into the weekend, the Bears will have a couple of things to keep an eye on following Friday’s final injury report of the week with three players listed as out, including one major offensive weapon.

Rome Odunze ruled out amid on-going concerns with Chicago’s passing game

The Bears made things official with wide receiver Rome Odunze, listing him as out for Sunday’s game with a foot injury, an issue he’s dealt with off and on for the majority of the season. It’s a tough blow for the offense and quarterback Caleb Williams amid all the struggles in the passing game.

“Everybody has a role to play to get this pass game cleaned up. It’s not where it needs to be. We’re winning in spite of our passing game, not because of it. And none of us are pleased with that,” head coach Ben Johnson told reporters on Monday.

Johnson doubled-down on the struggles on Tuesday and clarified the root cause wasn’t just with his quarterback, which makes sense when you watch the team’s Week 13 game back and seeing multiple instances of wide receivers falling down or not being in the right location.

“We were in the right spot, right time and it’s just not on the same page,” Williams explained. “So, that’s really what it’s come down to. So, us going back and watching film and looking at it and all that. We’re so close, and we’ll be hitting here soon.”

Unfortunately, the Bears will have to try to find a way to get the passing attack on track without their most productive weapon. Odunze leads the team in targets (90), receptions (44), receiving yards (661), and receiving touchdowns (6) this season. Without him in the lineup, the opportunity rises for DJ Moore, Luther Burden III, and Olamide Zaccheaus to lead the way, along with the two tight ends.

Other Observations

  • Linebacker T.J. Edwards will be making his return to the lineup for the first time since Week 9. He’s been dealing with a hamstring issue all season and added a broken hand to the list of concerns the last time he was on the field. It’ll be good to see him back.
  • Rookie running back Kyle Monangai gave fans an early scare after missing Wednesday’s practice with an ankle injury but was able to get back out there the rest of the week and will not have an injury status going into the weekend.
  • Cornerback Tyrique Stevenson will miss his second straight game with a hip injury, which means we will see Jaylon Johnson and Nahshon Wright manning the outside cornerback positions again.
