The Ohio State Buckeyes may not play the Indiana Hoosiers in the Big Ten Championship until Saturday night, but they still picked up a huge win that they needed on Friday afternoon.

Ohio State received news earlier in the week that offensive coordinator Brian Hartline would be leaving Columbus to become the next head coach at USF. With Hartline being the wide receiver developer that he is, the Buckeyes naturally had an immediate worry with their wide receiver recruiting. On signing day, four-star WR Kayden Dixon-Wyatt flipped to the USC Trojans. Five-star Ohio State commitment Chris Henry Jr. announced on Friday that he would indeed be signing with the Buckeyes

“You made the right choice,” Hartline told Henry Jr. on FaceTime shortly after the decision was made.

Despite Hartline in his final days in Columbus before heading south for his first year coaching gig, he still helped the Buckeyes land one last five-star wideout. Hartline was the lead recruiter for Henry Jr. long before he committed to the Buckeyes back in July of 2023. He made sure to tell the talented wideout that he made the right decision, even if Hartline isn’t going to be around himself.

Ohio State expects to lose Carnell Tate to the NFL draft after this season and there will be an opening opposite of Jeremiah Smith on the outside. The Buckeyes very well could be starting a true freshman in that spot like Henry Jr., he’s to that talent level. Either way, Henry Jr. is going to have a big role in Columbus down the road and the Buckeyes showed as much by fighting wall to wall to get him to sign on the dotted line.

Early week news that Hartline was leaving wasn’t great for the Buckeyes and it may have came a bit sooner than anyone expected. Still, the Buckeyes finished the week strong and now they have a chance to win their first Big Ten title since 2020 on Saturday.
