Cowboys Injury Updates: CeeDee Lamb’s progress, and a potential concern for the offense ahead of Week 15 vs Vikings
The Cowboys enter Week 15 banged up. Here’s the latest per HC Brian Schottenheimer.
Following their last loss, the Dallas Cowboys are in “win out or bust” mode going into Week 15 against the Minnesota Vikings, so every piece of injury news matters just a little bit more.
On Monday, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer offered multiple updates on the health of the roster, going from CeeDee Lamb’s progress in the concussion protocol to an ambiguous update that could raise serious concerns for the offense next weekend.
Let’s dive in.
Cowboys’ early injury updates ahead of Vikings matchup
WR CeeDee Lamb
Lamb entered the concussion following Thursday night’s loss to the Lions. According to Schottenheimer, Lamb is “doing good” and “progressing nicely.”
“Hopefully, things all work out like we expect,” Schottenheimer said.
Though today’s concussion protocol makes it challenging for players to return from one week to another, Dallas stands to benefit from a long week. To be cleared to play, Lamb must meet several requirements, including clearance from the team and an Independent Neurological Consultant.
DE Jadeveon Clowney, LT Tyler Guyton
The Cowboys missed Clowney and Guyton in the trenches against the Lions, and it sure sounds like their playing status will come down to the wire again. Schottenheimer admitted the Cowboys “will find out a little bit more over the next two days, 48 hours” with both.
Clowney (hamstring) was a game-time decision last Thursday. If he had a chance to play last week, one would think he’ll be ready to go, but you never know with hamstrings.
As for Guyton (knee), he missed practice all of last week and was ruled out early on. His absence would be concerning against a team like the Vikings, which likes to blitz and pressure the quarterback. Last week, backup LT Nate Thomas struggled, allowing eight pressures against the Lions, per PFF.
“Nate struggled, he’ll be the first to tell you that,” Schottenheimer said. “Second start, very talented player. Where Nate needs to grow is understanding he plays a very difficult position to play, and you’re going to get beat at times. You’ve got to bounce back.”
Guyton’s status being up in the air isn’t the best sign, and if he can’t go, the offense will be in trouble yet again.
CB Trevon Diggs
“(Diggs) should be good to go with practice,” Schottenheimer said.
The Cowboys opened the cornerback’s window to practice last week, but did not move him off of Injured Reserve. However, Schottenheimer’s comment, combined with the long week, could be a good sign for Diggs to be activated for Sunday’s primetime matchup.
