Brian Hartline’s admission on future plans could be bad news for the Ohio State Buckeyes down the road
Losing Brian Hartline is going to hurt in more ways than just one for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The Ohio State Buckeyes took a loss to the Indiana Hoosiers on the chin just a few days ago in the Big Ten Championship. Leading up to that game, the Buckeyes learned they would lose Brian Hartline to South Florida after the postseason.
Hartline is in South Florida part of this week starting some of the head coaching duties he has on his plate. Putting staff together and meeting the players, stuff like that Hartline is taking care of with the Bulls early week before getting back to Columbus. Ohio State has about three weeks until it’s back in action against the winner of Texas A&M and Miami.
Brian Hartline may become a bit of a thorn for Ohio State in the recruiting world
Ohio State has recruited wide receivers at a higher rate than anyone under Hartline with his ability to mold these wideouts into NFL players. The Buckeyes will undoubtedly miss Hartline as a recruiter and wide receivers coach, but they should still land the players they want. It is Ohio State after all. Hartline plans to recruit one key area hard in South Florida, just like the Buckeyes do.
“Tampa has been a huge part of our recruiting plan, South Florida has been huge, and now I get to live in it, in the hotbed, and bring the best receivers, best DBs, best linemen in the country here,” Hartline said recently. “Cannot wait.”
Currently on the team, both Jeremiah Smith and Brandon Inniss come from the Florida area that Hartline is referencing. Ohio State has long recruited Florida dating back to the Urban Meyer days and even Jim Tressel. But there is no hiding that Hartline has had his way in South Florida for some time now.
In today’s recruiting landscape, NIL is a major factor, and the Buckeyes are going to spend more than a school like USF. Hartline’s ability to mold these wideouts into NFL talent speaks for itself and that alone is going to land him talent at his new stop. Don’t be surprised if down the road, the Buckeyes and South Florida are recruiting some of the same players from the southern part of the Sunshine State.
