Alabama wasted no time stealing an elite 2027 recruit away from Ohio State, Michigan, and SEC rivals who will make immediate impact
Alabama lands 4-star recruit Colt Lumpris ahead of Ohio State, Michigan, and others. Here’s why he picked the Crimson Tide.
The Alabama Crimson Tide is focusing on getting a win in its next game with a rematch against the Oklahoma Sooners in the College Football Playoff.
In the meantime, it’s also been winning off the field after signing a top-5 recruiting class for 2026. It didn’t take long after national signing day for Alabama to start adding more top recruits to its 2027 class.
Kalen DeBoer and the coaching staff just landed a Rivals top-250 recruit in TE Colt Lumpris, who picked the Crimson Tide over the Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan Wolverines, Ole Miss Rebels, and Tennessee Volunteers.
Alabama lands 4-star TE Colt Lumpris for 2027 recruiting class
Alabama has a lot to look forward to in the future on offense with high quarterback play, and now a new weapon to go with it. Colt Lumpris is a 6-7, 235-pound tight end from Tolland, CT, with the size and skill set to make an immediate impact for Alabama. His athleticism makes him a receiving threat anywhere on the field as a refined route runner, while his size makes him a go-to red zone target with his bigger frame and ability to high point passes. There’s a reason why he is ranked highly as the 238th player in the country on Rivals’ rankings, with the opportunity to be a fast riser next season.
Lumpris joins QB Trent Seaborn and EDGE JaBarrius Garror as the three four-star recruits that have already committed to the Crimson Tide for 2027. I got the chance to ask Lumpris why Alabama, and things the fans need to know about him.
Lumpris’ decision came down to one key factor
Deciding between multiple top choices to continue your football career and to call your future home can’t be easy for recruits. But that’s exactly what their choice is, their future home. Lumpris felt at home with Alabama, which made his early decision an easy one.
“Alabama really stood out to me a many ways, but the main thing for me is that family-like environment throughout the program,” Lumpris said. “I’ve been talking with my family about colleges for a long time, and we have been going through like pros and cons almost to see where the best fit is for me. Also, Coach Ellis reached out to me two days ago and was talking about how he needs me there and how they could use me now. Which really sparked something.”
Alabama needs Lumpris to help improve one struggling area
Believe it or not, Alabama actually struggles in the red zone, and only scores a touchdown on 73% of its trips, which is way too low for them. It has 23 passing touchdowns on 56 red zone attempts this season. Lumpris is an instant red zone threat who can make sure those numbers never get that low again.
“For fans who aren’t familiar with my skill set,” Lumpris added. “I feel that I am definitely a red zone threat because of my size, but also just a threat on the field overall because I will go and get the ball no matter where it is. I feel like I move like a receiver in a tight end body.”
The Crimson Tide locked in another key player for its 2027 recruiting class, with more on the way on its path to another top-5 class.
