Notre Dame football considered to be the front runner for an elite recruit whose commitment date is just on the horizon
Notre Dame continues to trend for priority defender from a very important recruiting area.
Forget about all of the frustrations surrounding the final College Football Playoff rankings for a second, and appreciate that the future of Notre Dame is still very, very bright.
A big reason for that is the recruiting impact we have seen from head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish staff. They have consistently replenished the roster with top talent.
Don’t look now, but Notre Dame is in the driver’s seat for yet another elite defensive back, a consistent feat under secondary coach Mike Mickens. 2027 Raleigh (N.C.) Cardinal Gibbons cornerback Xavier Hasan has been a player that Notre Dame has been in a good position with for some time now. As I’ve stated recently, the Irish are the frontrunners, and I love their chances if a decision were made anytime soon.
Well, a decision is indeed on the horizon. The North Carolina star announced that he will make his decision on Dec. 15. Hasan will be selecting between the Irish, Ohio State, Tennessee, Florida State, South Carolina, and UNC.
If Notre Dame lands Hasan next week, he would join an outstanding start to the secondary class in 2027. The Irish already hold commitments from cornerback Ace Alston and safety Khalil Terry. Hasan would be the headliner of that group, as well as the 2027 class for the Irish in general.
Xavier Hasan’s recruiting background
Hasan is considered a top-100-caliber recruit by multiple major recruiting platforms right now. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Hasan ranks as the No. 38 overall player, the No. 4 cornerback, and the No. 1 player from the state of North Carolina for the 2027 recruiting class. Those rankings are enough to get everyone excited.
The 6-0, 180-pound cornerback is not short of options to play at the college level, even outside his finalists. His offer list is about as strong as you will find in the 2027 recruiting class overall. Some of the top programs that have offered Hasan include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, Florida, Ole Miss, Penn State, Miami, Florida State, Nebraska, Auburn, Louisville, NC State, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, South Carolina, Arkansas, Michigan State, UNC, Indiana, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Virginia, Wake Forest, Wisconsin, UCLA, and SMU, among many others.
In 12 games as a junior, opposing offenses have done whatever they can to steer clear of Hasan. He recorded just 17 total tackles and three interceptions during the season. Hasan also handled both kickoff and punt return duties for the team, having returned two for touchdowns on the year.
That’s fresh off a sophomore year when Hasan intercepted seven passes and broke up another eight, and it appears opponents have learned from their 2024 mistakes for the most part.
