Former Ohio State HC Urban Meyer has already said in the past how much money Michigan would have to pay him to be their head coach
Urban Meyer’s past response to how much it would cost Michigan to hire him has resurfaced.
When the Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Michigan Wolverines 27-9 to close out the regular season, no one had that being Sherrone Moore’s last game in Ann Arbor.
Since then, a lot has unfolded up north. Moore was fired for cause on Wednesday and placed under arrest for three charges, including felony home invasion. Michigan is now set to undergo a coaching search a bit unexpectedly and it’s unquestionably the biggest job open right now in college football.
Urban Meyer won’t be the guy, but he’s said in the past how much it would cost Michigan
While Meyer has made it clear he doesn’t want to get back into coaching and will stick with his gig at Fox, the former Ohio State head coach once admitted how much it would take for him to be the head coach at Michigan. In 2024, Meyer had a conversation with former USC QB Matt Leinart around the topic on Big Noon Kickoff.
“I offer you $10 million, are you taking the job? Matt Leinart asked.
“Negative,” Meyer answered before saying he gets paid that much by FOX. Leinart then increased his ideal offer to $25 million. At that point, Meyer wasted no time and said he’s “taking it.”
$25 million would be unprecedented money for a head coach, it’s not going to happen for Urban Meyer
Meyer’s last bit of coaching was with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021 and that only lasted 13 games before he was fired. Since then, Meyer has been on the sports media side of things and that’s where he is likely to stay. The former Ohio State head coach who was 7-0 against the Wolverines while with the Buckeyes has already come out and said there’s no shot it happens. Don’t expect him to waiver from that unless Michigan wants to come with the unprecedented offer.
