Eagles convincingly thwart potential revenge attempt with blowout win vs. Raiders to end three-game losing streak
The Eagles made Kenny Pickett look like a backup quarterback in their huge win over the Raiders.
Making plays on defense is always a key stepping stone to a victory in the NFL. For the Philadelphia Eagles, they completely dominated a short-handed Las Vegas Raiders squad that wanted to extend Philly’s three-game losing skid. Instead, the Eagles looked like the team many expected them to be entering the season.
Their play action calls on offense worked consistently, and they dominated the Raiders inn the trenches defensively. That allowed other players, like Zack Baun, to force critical errors by Raiders backup quarterback Kenny Pickett, who was hoping to perform much better against his childhood favorite squad donning green.
Eagles prevent potential Kenny Pickett revenge game
The Philadelphia defense was flying around and made impact plays all game long against a Raiders offense who never got off the ground. The Raiders threw for just 64 yards in Pickett’s return to Philadelphia. Yes, you read that correctly. With the inability to hit on anything down the field, the running game suffered for Las Vegas, too.
Ashton Jeanty was getting hit behind the line of scrimmage consistently, and the early offensive production from the Eagles really put LV behind the eight ball. The game was basically decided by the middle of the third quarter.
I discussed the Philly defense’s performance with A to Z’s own Rob Gregson. While it did come against Vegas,
“There has to be context added to Philadelphia’s performance today because of how bad the Raiders offense has been and is. A backup QB behind one of the worst lines in the league made for easy pickings. The Eagles were down arguably their best defender via Jalen Carter, and still it didn’t matter.
Kenny Pickett threw for just 64 yards and an interception and the Birds bottled up Ashton Jeanty en route to less than 40 yards on the ground. Credit Brandon Graham, who after spending most of this year on the couch, racked up two sacks as a fill in for Carter at DT.
It wasn’t a fun day for Kenny Pickett either. He was hit a total of nine times and finished the game with just a 47.9 QB rating and 60 percent of his passes being completed. Everything that could go right, went right for the Eagles’ defense on Sunday.” — Rob Gregson, A to Z Sports
