The Washington Commanders are 4-10 on the season, and it’s been a nightmare ever since the offseason with injuries and players missing quality time.

One of the biggest storylines this season has been the multiple injuries to franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels and the decisions by the coaching staff along the way. The season couldn’t have gone any worse for Daniels, who needs to get healthy and back to playing how we saw his rookie season, while the team continues to build the roster.

The biggest argument heading into the final three games of the season is whether or not Daniels could play after being eliminated from playoff contention, and Dan Quinn has decided to end the conversation.

The Commanders are shutting down Jayden Daniels for the remainder of the season

The biggest goal for the rest of this season, and the 2026 season, is keeping Daniels healthy. The best way to do so is by holding him out for the rest of the year, and that’s what the team has decided to do with only three games left.

Quinn announced the decision today and why it was the right call to make, what went into that, and also what’s next.

“We’re going to sit him [Daniels] for the final three games,” Quinn said. “I know your first question likely is, “Well, what went into that?”, and the answer is, it was a lot. Part medical and part team. As of today, he still wasn’t all the way cleared to play. So, like last week, we didn’t have all the results until the end of the week, and then a short week next week with the Christmas game. So we believe this decision allows him to take advantage of the next few weeks in a different way. He wants to practice, and he will practice.”

Jayden Daniels has to get healthy now

Daniels has only played in four full games this season, and he’s missed or left early in the other 10 games. He also had to come back on three separate occasions with different injuries, and the most recent one was the final straw. Daniels returned from his elbow injury against the Minnesota Vikings, but it was short-lived after just two and a half quarters. He ended up falling on his elbow after an interception and hasn’t been cleared for contact since, which caused him to miss the game against the New York Giants.

This was the best decision to make for Daniels, who has had nothing but inconsistency on the team and with decisions regarding his injuries this season. Daniels playing a few quarters, then leaving, missing time, and returning just to do it all again, only hurt his development. The biggest goal now for Daniels is to continue to practice, which he will do since he isn’t being placed on IR. He has time to get healthy for an offseason where he can continue to grow and develop and bounce back in 2026.
