The Miami Hurricanes and Texas A&M Aggies will have the eyes of the nation on them this weekend as they square off in the first round of the College Football Playoff. It’s a contest that’s expected to be a close, competitive game, with A&M just a 3.5-point home favorite as of Tuesday.

The Hurricanes and Aggies each boast offensive and defensive lines that rate among the nation’s best, with plenty of star power on both sides of the ball.

Regarding the Canes’ defensive line, A&M RB Rueben Owens II was asked this week about the challenge of facing a defense as good as Miami’s as stopping the run, and he had a rather, let’s say, bold answer about his upcoming adversaries.

Texas A&M RB Rueben Owens II doesn’t see Miami Hurricanes’ run defense as ‘much of a challenge’

“I wouldn’t say it’s much of a challenge,” Owens said. “I know my guys. They’re ready for the challenge. It’s been like that a couple of games. The Mizzou game. They said they had a good run defense. We put up over 200 rushing yards. So, I just feel that once we just align, do our assignment, put the effort in, we’ll get the job done.”

Owens is the second member of the Aggies’ offense to give some eyebrow-raising comments that the Hurricane players could tape up inside their facility. A&M OL Trey Zuhn III was asked about Miami All-American defensive end Rueben Bain, Jr., and he responded, “I don’t think he’ll be a threat that we need to worry about too much.”

Bain is a player in particular who’s talked before about how he’s fueled by articles, doubt put out by people that he reads as daily reminders. The Aggies have undoubtedly given plenty of material to put in his notebook and let stew for a while before the game.

If Miami is able to put the screws to A&M’s run game early, it wouldn’t be surprising to hear Bain and his teammates letting the Aggies hear about it on the field.

Miami and Texas A&M will get underway on Saturday at noon ET from Kyle Field in College Station, Texas.
