Philadelphia Eagles receive coal in their stocking a week before Christmas Day after latest news on star player
The Eagles will be a bit shorthanded on their offensive line once again.
The Philadelphia Eagles were hoping for an early Christmas present as they prepare to play a struggling Washington Commanders squad without quarterback Jayden Daniels. Instead, a lump of coal just a week away from the big holiday was dropped into their stocking with the latest injury update for their offense.
Lane Johnson ruled out for Week 16 after speculation he could be back
The Eagles released their Thursday injury report for Saturday’s game, and they ruled out two key players in the trenches already. Offensive tackle Lane Johnson had some steam for a potential return this week recently, but he wasn’t able to get back on the practice field. Accordingly, he has been ruled out.
“Lane Johnson planned to return to practice this week. Instead, a bit too early. He’s ruled out, along with Jalen Carter (shoulders).” — Ian Rapoport
Defensive lineman Jalen Carter was expected to miss another game with his shoulders injuries, so that one was less surprising for everyone involved. Fred Johnson returned to practice this week and is set to start for Philly again on Saturday after recovering from an ankle ailment. Landon Dickerson has also been beat up recently, but he’s expected to suit up for the Eagles.
For the Eagles, losing Johnson for another week is a tough break, simply because he has played at a Pro Bowl level when available this season. That being said, the Commanders pass rush is amongst the worst in the entire NFC. They should have enough problem finding offensive success against that unit, regardless of who the starting tackles are for Philadelphia.
We will see if Johnson can get back to action in practice next week, but the Eagles surely won’t rush him back in any capacity. They are in a good position to clinch the NFC East over the next three weeks at some point.
With their magic number at one, Philadelphia just needs one win or one Dallas Cowboys loss to become back-to-back NFC East champions. With the fluidity of this division, that is rather notable. Not to mention, the Eagles continue to fight for playoff seeding in a crowded top of the NFC.
