The Oklahoma Sooners need a new tight end, or maybe even a couple, for the 2026 season. The way to do that is through the transfer portal. Oklahoma has two freshmen, Tyler Ruxer and Ryder Mix, both of whom are great. However, with Jaren Kanak graduating, Kaden Helms entering the portal, and likely a few other changes, the Sooners need to hit the portal themselves.

Fortunately, there’s a tight end who entered the portal who has the perfect connection to Oklahoma.

Sooners should consider targeting tight end Rocky Beers in the transfer portal to strengthen the roster

The last name Beers may sound familiar to some of you. That’s right, star women’s basketball player Ragan Beers, who may be the best player on the team and could be in the WNBA soon, is Rocky Beers’ sister. Rocky played tight end at Colorado State, and last season, many thought he might transfer to Oklahoma because of his sister’s connection to the program.

Obviously, that didn’t happen. But this time around, the Sooners need a tight end, or a few. Tight end coach Joe John Finley, if he is still on staff for next season, needs to get this position group right this time. Finley is on the hot seat after having two straight seasons with an ineffective tight end room.

Beers would be a great addition to the room for 2026.

Who is tight end Rocky Beers, and why should the Sooners consider him for 2026?

Beers played for Air Force from 2021 to 2022. Then transferred to Florida International, where he played for two seasons. Last year, he played at Colorado State and still has one year of eligibility left. Beers has 564 career receiving yards and nine career receiving touchdowns. Those stats cover two seasons; a handful of the others he didn’t play due to injury or other reasons.

However, his work in the passing game isn’t the most impressive part, though it’s not too shabby either. Beers is good in run blocking, an area that has been the tight ends’ group’s poorest in some time. This season, either the tight end that was on the field was a good run blocker, or a good pass catcher, not both.

Of course, the Sooners could very well not even be interested in Beers. However, he wouldn’t be a bad fit or rotational guy.
