Just 32 games into his NFL career, it’s clear the Chicago Bears have something special in second-year quarterback Caleb Williams and he still hasn’t even sniffed the true potential he can became in this league and for this city.

After a rocky situation during his 2024 rookie season, Williams finally has some much-needed stability and guidance under new head coach Ben Johnson and the results have spoke for itself this year.

The Bears are 11-4 on the season and already clinched a playoff spot with two games left to be played in the regular season. In six of those 11 wins, Williams led his team on a fourth-quarter comeback, becoming the first player since Peyton Manning to have that many fourth-quarter comebacks in a single-season under the age of 25.

Williams’ latest clutch performance against the Green Bay Packers on a national stage was perhaps the biggest win of his career and the biggest win this franchise has experienced in years. When the lights got bright, he delivered regardless of how the game was going up to that point. And a showing like that earned him even more legendary comparisons.

Caleb Williams compared to Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant after latest win

While speaking with Johnson during his Monday exclusive interview, Jeff Joniak compared Williams’ mindset in those critical moments to NBA legends Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. A comparison that Johnson couldn’t help but agree with.

“I think he’s the ultimate competitor,” Johnson said of Williams. “When you’re like that, when you’re wired like that, you crave moments like what happened on Saturday night. All of those guys you mentioned – Jordan, Kobe, all of the greats of any sport – that’s what they go to bed dreaming about is if I ever get put in this situation, I’m going to rise to the occasion and come through.

“And Caleb is built that way and we’ve kinda known that. He was that way in college and it’s really translated to the NFL game as well. I know his teammates believe in him, coaching staff certainly does. It’s pretty cool to see this whole city rally behind this team and our quarterback.”

With each moment like Williams had on Saturday, confidence in himself and believe from everyone around him watching just continues to grow. That genuine killer instinct in critical situations is what makes the great ones truly great and it’s a path Williams is putting himself on.

It’s not the first time anyone’s made these comparisons, either. Back before his first season with the Bears in August of 2024, Williams mentioned in an interview with The Chicago Tribune how he’s been studying the mental makeup of Jordan and Kobe and understanding what exactly it was that made them great.

He’s already taken some of those lessons to heart, applying them to his own career and everyday mindset. It’s clear Williams is going to truly be something special following in those footsteps.
