The Colts’ most recent move all but ensures that Philip Rivers’ experience is coming to an end ahead of the season finale against the Texans.

Ahead of the Indianapolis Colts’ Week 17 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars, it was rumored that it would be Philip Rivers’ final game. This is because the Colts were officially eliminated from the playoffs on Saturday.

Listening to head coach Shane Steichen and Rivers following the game only added more fuel to that fire. And now the team seems to have just hinted at the Rivers experience officially coming to an end. The team announced that they have signed rookie QB Seth Henigan to their practice squad.

Colts signing Seth Henigan seems to hint towards the Philip Rivers experience coming to an end

Henigan signed with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent this year. He didn’t make their roster, but he was signed to their practice squad following roster cut-down day. He was later released from the practice squad in late September.

Henigan was a four-year starter at Memphis, starting 50 games and throwing for 14,266 yards, 104 touchdowns, and 31 interceptions. The Colts worked out Henigan at the same time as Rivers’ workout; they didn’t sign him then, but he now lands with the team ahead of Week 18.

The Colts’ decision to add another QB ahead of Week 18 shows that they are preparing to start Riley Leonard. I also wouldn’t be shocked if Rivers wasn’t the backup for Week 18 and the team chose to elevate Henigan instead. It seems that we’ve seen the end of Uncle Phil, or should I say Grandpa Phil.
