Jeremiah Smith is from Florida, so it’s no surprise that he feels this way.

The Ohio State Buckeyes will be back on the field in two days against the Miami Hurricanes in the Cotton Bowl. For Ohio State, it’ll be the first game it has played in since its Dec. 6 loss to the Indiana Hoosiers.

Ohio State was flat offensively in that game in the red zone, especially, and it cost them a three-point loss to the Hoosiers, as they scored just 10 points. Since then, Ryan Day has taken play-calling duties from Brian Hartline on his way out, and they’ve gotten healthy with the time off. One player who is fully healthy and looking forward to the matchup against Miami is none other than Jeremiah Smith.

Jeremiah Smith makes an unsurprising admission ahead of the Buckeyes playing Miami

Smith was asked if Miami had won and been in big games like they are now, if that would have changed his mind about not going to Miami. Ohio State’s star wideouts’ response is one that Buckeye Nation probably won’t love.

“Most likely, yeah, I probably end up going to Miami if things were on the right track then and there,” Smith said. “But you know, I chose to stick with Ohio State.”

Considering that Smith is from the Miami area and grew up there, this is not surprising at all. The Ohio State star was the No. 1 wide receiver in the class of 2024, and the Canes recruited him hard, finishing No. 2 behind the Buckeyes.

Smith went for the development of Brian Hartline and Ohio State’s proven ability to put wide receivers in the NFL. Hartline may be on his way out, but Smith already has two years under his belt learning from him.

Miami wanted Smith badly in the class of 2024, and he’s shown why over the last two seasons. Ohio State’s top playmaker has 2,401 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns through 28 games played in college. As a true freshman last season, Smith had 1,315 passing yards in 16 games to help Ohio State win the national championship.

As a sophomore, Smith is again trying to help the Buckeyes win it all. If they want to do so, it’ll take beating Miami, his hometown team, in the quarterfinal.
