Remember the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Detroit Lions fans? Don’t you wish you could go back there sometimes?

The Lions were not out of it; they were coming off a win over the Giants, and then Frank Ragnow suddenly decided to come out of retirement. People were dancing in the streets like World War II had just ended. I can’t verify that statement at all, but they were out there. Just trust me.

Then two days later, it was all over. The Lions lost on Thanksgiving, and news that Ragnow had a grade-three hamstring strain hit, ending his comeback bid. Since then, everyone has wanted to know whether Ragnow might give it another shot in 2026.

If anyone might know, it’s the guy he would be snapping the ball to, Jared Goff. On Tuesday, Goff went on 97.1 The Ticket and basically killed that dream altogether.

Jared Goff does not see a Ragnow return in 2026 in the cards for the Lions.

“No, I don’t think that’s in the cards at all,” Goff said. “I just don’t think his interest level is there.”

So there you go. The Lions cannot go into this offseason relying on that possibility because it no longer looks like a possibility. In some ways, that’s a good thing for Detroit because it forces it to address this in another way.

If I’m Brad Holmes, I’m looking right at Ravens center Tyler Linderbaum, and I’m figuring out how much money to put in the dump truck I’m pulling up to his house the day I’m able to do so.

Ragnow’s interest level taking a dip might also point to Taylor Decker and Graham Glasgow retiring after this season. If Ragnow is not back with his boys, that takes away some of the drive to return and give it one more shot.

I know it would be for me if I had to jump into an offense with a bunch of young guys I’ve never played with before. We’ll see what the Lions do soon, but a new era is definitely upon us, and Ragnow is not looking like he’s going to be a part of it.
