Trevon Diggs finds a playoff contender to bet on him, and it’s one that will cause mixed feelings for Cowboys fans
The Dallas Cowboys will watch Trevon Diggs in the NFL playoffs.
The Dallas Cowboys released Trevon Diggs on Tuesday. One day later, he is playoff-bound.
That’s because the Green Bay Packers claimed Diggs on waivers. And now, he lands on the same team that traded for Micah Parsons in August.
Diggs reunites with Parsons
Firstly, I should say: Good for Diggs. Things got messy with the Cowboys, and there’s no denying that he played a major role in it. But so did the front office. Sometimes, it’s like that in the NFL. For that reason, I’m glad to see him get a chance to start anew with a playoff-bound team. Hopefully, it works out for him.
But for a Cowboys fanbase that lost its biggest defensive star, Parsons, to the Packers earlier in the year, it stings a little, especially because, come on, it’s the Packers. The team that (very painfully) eliminated the Cowboys from the playoffs in the 2014, 2016, and 2023 seasons.
It sucked when they got Parsons because of how big a loss it was. And though losing Diggs now doesn’t quite feel the same, you can bet that if he ends up balling out in Green Bay, it won’t be a great feeling for fans. And questions like “Why wasn’t he doing that here?” will inevitably pop up.
At minimum, you can expect fans to keep a close eye on him when the Packers are on in the postseason, even if it’s out of curiosity.
Ultimately, it’s not a surprise that Diggs landed in Green Bay. Not only is there an obvious connection to the Packers through Parsons — who is out for the season after tearing his ACL a few weeks ago — but the team needs cornerbacks.
It remains to be seen what his role will actually be. Is he being brought in for depth purposes, or should we expect him to play? We should find out soon enough.
