The Ohio State Buckeyes are working through their roster construction for the 2026 season with the transfer portal now open. Ohio State’s season may have ended in a bad way against Miami in the Cotton Bowl, but there’s no time to harp on it with the portal now open.

Ohio State has lost several players to the portal already with no real surprise coming about just yet. The Buckeyes will be active in the portal as well, as they normally are. Ohio State already has a couple of visitors lined up in the portal.

Ohio State to host transfer portal pass rusher

According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Ohio State will receive a transfer portal visit from Gardner-Webb EDGE Antonio O’Berry on Friday. O’Berry is expected to visit West Virginia on Saturday additionally. Ohio State hasn’t been shy about bringing in small school players to retool their depth from the portal in past years, and this is another example. O’Berry is a Dayton, Ohio native and played at Division II Tiffin previously. O’Berry totaled 52 tackles and seven sacks this season at Gardner-Webb.

“From a physical perspective, there is a lot to like about O’Berry,” A to Z Sports’ Ryan Roberts stated. “It doesn’t take long to find him on film, boasting a long frame and good overall movement skills. While Gardner-Webb played him mostly from wider alignments, he also has some experience rushing from the inside. His long arms and closing speed can be a lot for opposing offensive linemen to handle, particularly as a pass rusher.”

Weighing just around 240-245 pounds, O’Berry will need to add substantial mass and power to his frame in order to be more than a niche-designated pass rusher on the Power Four level. If he can, and his technique continues to improve, there are a lot of natural gifts to work with. A prospective team will have to have trust in its defensive line coach to unlock that upside early.”

Ohio State has a need at EDGE where they need to retool depth

The Buckeyes are set to lose Caden Curry to the NFL and starting EDGE Kenyatta Jackson could very well be following. Ohio State has already seen C.J. Hicks and Logan George head to the transfer portal from the pass-rushing group. Beau Atkinson and Zion Grady are currently the top two players for the Buckeyes returning off the EDGE as it currently stands.

Ohio State is bringing in Khary Wilder and Dre Quinn as freshmen in 2026, and they will help fill out the depth as well. With as quickly as this visit is happening, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Ohio State land O’Verry in the near future if it works for both sides.
