Alabama Crimson Tide’s latest transfer portal departure could sting a lot worse if breakout defender declares for NFL Draft

Alabama’s latest loss at the EDGE position could be a problem if a breakout player declares for the draft.

The Alabama Crimson Tide had a busy Friday after the Rose Bowl, and it hasn’t all been great. The team has had a handful of departures through the first day, including some valuable depth along the offensive line and at running back.

The latest departure, however, could be problematic. We know that Alabama will already be losing its top EDGE player, LT Overton, to the NFL Draft. The question than becomes, what happens with Yhonzae Pierre, who broke out in 2025? Because if he leaves as well, then suddenly, this departure could hurt Alabama a lot more.

Noah Carter enters the transfer portal

“Noah Carter leaving is kind of surprising to me with him getting a good bit of playing time as a true freshman. He had a significant role throughout the season, but this could signal Alabama’s plans this offseason, and what else could be coming.”

“This tells me that Pierre could be coming back, with Russaw getting more playing time as well. Alabama will also be linked to some veterans in the transfer portal as they already have some visits lined up.” – Josh Taylor, A to Z Sports Alabama contributor.

The hope for Alabama fans is that Taylor is right and that Pierre is back. One of the lone bright spots in the Rose Bowl, Pierre had two sacks, but as sources told A to Z Sports weeks ago, Pierre could be viewed as high as a first-round pick in some league circles.

If he does in fact leave, this departure would hurt, but Alabama is set to be in a good place while looking to make moves elsewhere.
