The Cleveland Browns have ended their season with back-to-back wins over the AFC North. Cleveland handled the Cincinnati Bengals by a score of 20-18, finishing 5-12 on the season.

The Browns scored two defensive touchdowns in the first half against the Bengals to propel them early. Cleveland’s offense never got going, making just two field goals. Myles Garrett recorded a fourth-quarter sack to break the sack record, then Andre Szmyt kicked a 49-yard field goal to win the game.

Kevin Stefanski declines to answer about his future after the win

Heading into the game, there were numerous reports that this would be Stefanski’s last game in Cleveland, given how the last two seasons have gone. The Browns finished the season strong with two wins, but now all the attention is on seeing if that was enough. Stefanski was dismissive when asked about his future after the game.

“This game’s not about me, I’ve told you guys that,” Stefanski said when asked about his future. “I’m proud of that group for fighting.”

Stefanski went on to say, “I’m not making the focus about me,” when asked if he expects to be coaching the Browns next season.

A coach with confidence in his job would have gotten up to the microphone and said he expects to be around next year. That comment is very telling about where things stand right now, even if the Browns are coming off a win.

Cleveland had just 200 yards of total offense against the Bengals, and its struggles on that side of the ball remain clear. All season, the Browns have operated with the worst offense in the NFL, the main reason they’re finishing with 12 losses. With Stefanski being an offensive-minded coach, it hasn’t been a good look.

All attention is now on “Black Monday” to see if the Browns will be moving on from their head coach of the past six seasons.
