Caleb Williams has been far from perfect since being drafted first overall by the Chicago Bears and had far from a perfect situation to walk into with this organization.

There was obvious skepticism coming to the city “quarterbacks go to to die” but Williams was hellbent and determined to make the most of his professional football opportunity.

Just 34 games into his career with the Bears, Williams has ejected life back into one of the most devote football cities. Year two has been much improved and more fruitful for the Bears and Williams has certainly played a major role in that with Chicago’s eyes set for the postseason.

And before it gets to that point, Williams capped off the regular season of his sophomore season by breaking the Bears single-season passing yard record, and the best is yet to come.

“I think I was brought here for those types of things and these type of moments,” Williams said this week going into Week 18. “Things that haven’t been done here to try and be able to accomplish.”

It’s just another one of the many records that Williams is destined to break in Chicago but the individual milestones are just part of the process for what this young quarterback wants to achieve.

“I want to be the best quarterback not only for Chicago, but in the league,” Williams explained. “And that starts with consistency, that starts with me preparing the right way. It’s important to me. I don’t get up to be mediocre.”

The godsend for Williams’ career has been new head coach Ben Johnson, an innovative offensive mind eager to get the very best out of his quarterback. Johnson was one of the hottest coaching candidates in the league but chose to come to Chicago in large part because of Williams.

Together, Johnson and Williams have created high hopes for this organization, well beyond the current season few people saw coming this soon. And the more time they spent together, the better Williams will become.

“I think he feels like he’s got a great grasp on what we’re trying to get done,” Johnson said. “And I think that’s showing up now on game day on a consistent basis. He’s able to play a little bit faster… I think he’s just playing really confident right now and hopefully we can continue that trend.”
