The Washington Commanders finished the 2025 season 5-12, and now a very important offseason begins to make sure this doesn’t happen again next year.

Teams are hitting the ground running and wasting no time making changes, with the Atlanta Falcons already firing Raheem Morris. They are just the first of many, and the Commanders will have their own coaching staff changes as well.

There are plenty of rumors regarding what the Commanders will do, and the most shocking was a suggestion that they would move on from offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury this offseason, no matter what. Kingsbury got a very important shoutout after the Commanders’ win that will go a long way in his case to return.

Jayden Daniels’ mom shouts out support for Kliff Kingsbury in a social media post

Moving on from Kingsbury would be a bold move after seeing what he and Jayden Daniels did in the latter’s rookie season. Unfortunately, this season took a turn for the worse when injuries kept Daniels and wide receiver Terry McLaurin out for most of 2025. Now the team has a tough decision to make with Kingsbury if he doesn’t leave for another head coaching opportunity.

Daniels’ mom and his agent, Regina Jackson, gave Kingsbury a slight endorsement in her post celebrating the Commanders’ Week 18 win. She states, “Officially loading JD5/KK season 3,” meaning Daniels and Kingsbury, obviously.

Kingsbury will have opportunities to interview for head coaching jobs, but if he doesn’t get any, the Commanders should bring him back for one more season. You don’t know what you have until it’s gone, and would they really be able to upgrade over Kingsbury this offseason?

The Commanders could regret moving on from Kliff Kingsbury

This is a make-or-break offseason for head coach Dan Quinn, and he can’t mess up a single move he makes. The first will be deciding what to do with the defensive coordinator position, and he will also have to address the offensive coordinator position and what he wants to do.

Sure, moving on and finding this magic upgrade sounds like a great idea, but what if that person doesn’t exist? Quinn would likely have to roll the dice on someone who hasn’t been an offensive coordinator before, and that’s a huge gamble for your season and your franchise quarterback’s development.

Fans will be split on what they want, but keeping Daniels with his go-to coach in Kingsbury might be the best bet. They already lost QB coach Tavita Pritchard, who took the Stanford head coaching job, leading to David Blough’s promotion.

It’s not often a team fires two coordinators and keeps its head coach, and it doesn’t go well when it does. Kingsbury has his own list of faults, but he honestly did a great job with what he had to work with this season.

The grass isn’t always greener on the other side, and general manager Adam Peters and Quinn have a lot of difficult decisions to make. However, it’s pretty clear that some important people want Kingsbury back, including Jackson.
