Colts could lose a key part of their roster that they worked so hard to build, and it’s completely out of their control

The Colts could be on the verge of losing something they got aggressive to build before they even get to see it play out on the field.

The Indianapolis Colts faced multiple hurdles to overcome during the 2025 season. Their most notable being injuries to multiple of their top players on both sides of the ball. One of those is their big-money free agency signing from last offseason, Charvarius Ward.

Ward was forced to miss a total of nine games in 2025. Most of which were due to concussions that he suffered during the season. He mentioned in season that one of the concussions led him to think about his future playing football. And now, with the season over, he’s opened up the subject further.

Colts CB Charvarius Ward opens up by sharing that he is considering retirement after a concussion-filled season

During just one season, Ward suffered three separate concussions. Two of them landed him on the IR, one of which actually came during pre-game warm-ups. He is still dealing with symptoms today, and he shared with local media that he is trying to decide if he will retire from the NFL.

Part of the reason the Colts made an aggressive move at the trade deadline to acquire CB Sauce Gardner was to pair him with Ward. The team felt it would have one of the best CB duos in the league, and then add slot Kenny Moore II, and it would have one of the league’s best CB rooms.

Now, they may never get to know how good Gardner and Ward could have been. It would be a significant loss for the Colts, but Ward needs to do what’s best for him and his mental and physical health. That might just be retirement; if so, it seems the team will find out from Ward fairly soon.
