The Ohio State Buckeyes have been tasked with maneuvering the transfer portal just days after ending their season against the Miami Hurricanes in the transfer portal.

Ohio State has lost double-digit players to the transfer portal and they’ve brought in a pair of players as well. The Buckeyes have added Ohio TE Mason Williams as the only notable addition so far. Ohio State is still working on the “big fish” they’re chasing this transfer portal season and that is former Penn State DE Chaz Coleman.

Chaz Coleman to visit the Buckeyes on Tuesday after trip to Tennessee

According to On3, Coleman is currently on a visit to Tennessee to start the week after a weekend trip to see the LSU Tigers. Ohio State is expecting Coleman to arrive on its campus on Tuesday at some point, marking the beginning of a huge transfer portal visit.

When Coleman entered the portal — Ohio State was the first school mentioned — and it makes a lot of sense with him being from Ohio. Coleman was a four-star recruit in the class of 2024 out of Warren, Ohio. Ohio State simply got involved too late with Coleman during his senior year of high school — and he ended up signing with Penn State.

After a coaching change and a down year for the Nittany Lions, Coleman is in the portal as one of the top players. Coleman only made six tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble as a true freshman for Penn State in 2025. It’s the athletic ability and ceiling with Coleman that has everyone excited — and as one of the most sought-after players in the portal. Coleman is a 6-foot-4, 246-pound pass rusher who was set to follow in the steps of Abdul Carter at Penn State.

Getting Coleman on campus is the first big thing that just happened for the Buckeyes. That’s set to happen and once it does, Ohio State becomes potentially the favorite to land Coleman. It’s going to take a big commitment on the NIL front to get it done — but that’s what Ohio State has to do in today’s age of college football.
