A Tennessee Vols transfer defender is reportedly set to visit the Georgia Bulldogs.

According to CBS Sports college football insiders Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz, Vols transfer EDGE Caleb Herring will take a visit to Georgia.

Hummer also reported that Herring took a visit to Mississippi State on Monday.

It’s also been reported that Herring will take a visit to Miami after the Hurricanes return from the Fietsa Bowl later this week.

Caleb Herring is a player with significant upside

Herring isn’t a player that the Vols necessarily wanted to lose. But with Herring’s position coach (LeVorn Harbin) not returning in 2026, and a new defensive coordinator in Jim Knowles coming to Rocky Top in 2026, it’s not a complete shock that the former four-star recruit is entering the transfer portal.

The Tennessee native didn’t put up huge numbers during his time with the Vols — he totaled 25 tackles and five sacks while playing in 36 games at UT — but he’s a player with significant upside that still has untapped potential.

It’s worth pointing out that former Vols defensive lineman Jayson Jenkins, who was teammates with Herring for two seasons at Tennessee before transferring to Florida State for the 2025 season, recently transferred to Mississippi State. It wouldn’t be a shock see Herring land with those Bulldogs instead of the ones in Athens. But if Georgia decides to make Herring one of their top targets, that will probably be where the former Vol lands.

We’ll see where Herring ends up calling home in the coming days.
