The Washington Commanders announce a shocking move that comes with a massive risk and drastically impacts Jayden Daniels
The Commanders dropped a bombshell that they are moving on from offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, and now Jayden Daniels will be in a completely new offense.
The Washington Commanders’ offseason is underway, and massive changes need to be made after a nightmare of a season.
Head coach Dan Quinn faces a make-or-break offseason where he needs to nail every move he makes. We’ve been expecting a change at defensive coordinator for some time now, but Quinn took it a step further by making a drastic change on the offensive side of the ball as well, which comes with a massive risk.
The Commanders announced they are parting ways with offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, which could come back to haunt them.
Commanders are parting ways with Kliff Kingsbury
There were reports that Kingsbury and general manager Adam Peters had a disconnect, but this move is still very surprising. Moving on from Kingsbury after the success he’s had with Jayden Daniels in his rookie season seemed impossible, but it’s happened. After a down season that was riddled by things out of Kingsbury’s control, such as injuries, the Commanders have decided to make a change.
Even after getting endorsed by Daniels and Daniels’ mom when the season ended, the Commanders decided to move in a different direction that directly impacts Daniels and his development. Quinn can’t mess this hire up, and his decision will either save his job or be the back breaker in a final year in Washington.
Kingsbury is already expected to interview for several head coaching opportunities with the New York Giants, the Tennessee Titans, and several others, which makes this move even more confusing. Very rarely do you see a coordinator let go, only to go interview for a promotion.
Jayden Daniels and the offense will look completely different
This move impacts the franchise quarterback more than anybody else on the team, and Daniels has praised Kingsbury and their special connection. Daniels already lost his QB coach, Tavita Pritchard, weeks ago. Now, Daniels will have a new coordinator and a whole new offensive philosophy going into his third season.
Despite how people felt about Kingsbury, his offense was unique, and it clearly worked. Daniels’ rookie season was one of the best by a rookie ever, and even with a lack of talent, this offense carried the team to an NFC Championship game. 2025 started rough with Terry McLaurin missing the entire offseason due to his contract holdout, then Daniels and McLaurin missed the majority of the season together due to injuries, and only played in three games together this year. Kingsbury was set up to fail from the start of the season, and this move can backfire quickly for the Commanders.
