Former Ohio State football player has landed with a former Buckeyes coach in the transfer portal – and it’s not Brian Hartline

The Ohio State Buckeyes have lost double-digit players from their roster since the season ended with a loss to Miami in the Cotton Bowl.

Every team in college football is losing players to the portal — and for the Buckeyes, it’s players on the back end of the roster leaving for the most part. Ohio State did lose some key cornerback depth with Bryce West and Aaron Scott both deciding to leave the program.

Bryce West is heading to play for Luke Fickell at Wisconsin

West will be staying in the Big Ten, as he’s set to sign to play at Wisconsin after spending the last two seasons in Columbus. Landing with the Badgers gives the soon-to-be junior a better path to clear playing time, something he was going to have to battle for in Columbus.

West was the No. 151 player and No. 16 cornerback in the class of 2024 out of Glenville (OH). There was a chance that West was going to take over for Lorenzo Styles as the nickel cornerback in 2026 — but he was going to have to battle for and win that job. West played in 18 games over two seasons with the Buckeyes — and made 11 tackles with one pass defended during that time.

Wisconsin kept former Ohio State defensive coordinator Luke Fickell around for another season with a promise to invest more into their NIL. West is a nice addition for the Badgers and an example of their NIL being put to use.

Ohio State will be hitting the portal for a cornerback

The Buckeyes are going to need to add two cornerbacks via the portal. Former Auburn starting CB Kayin Lee is a player to watch — and one that the Buckeyes have had on campus already. Ohio State will return Devin Sanchez for his sophomore season, and Jermaine Mathews Jr. very well could return to man the other outside cornerback spot.

It’s harder than ever to build quality depth and we may never see a team like the Ohio State team that won it all two years ago with the new landscape. The portal is only getting crazier every year — and even winning teams are losing double-digit player from their rosters.
