The Detroit Lions have not wasted any time starting their search for a new offensive coordinator after firing John Morton on Tuesday. They already have their first interview set up, and it’s with a guy you all know.

Lions to interview David Blough for their offensive coordinator job

Blough was recently with the Lions as their practice squad quarterback in 2023 and spent three other seasons with them as well. After the 2023 season, he retired and began his coaching career with the Washington Commanders as their assistant quarterbacks coach.

In 2024, he was sought after by the Chicago Bears, New York Jets, and Jacksonville Jaguars, all wanting to interview him. The Commanders blocked him from doing those interviews and promoted him to quarterbacks coach.

It’s been known for a while that Blough has wanted to coach in this league, and he has been considered a hot name for the future. This will be his first OC interview, and I can promise you it won’t be his last, unless the Lions hire him.

This is not a trendy pick; this is a guy who will be a head coach in the league sooner than you think. He’s also someone who has played here and understands what this team is looking for. Keep an eye on this one.
